Counselling and Psychoterapy FAQ's
Q.1 Are sessions via video call effective
A. Evidence shows, and in my experience, that video calls are effective for EMDR Therapy and Talking Therapy sessions, this is still face to face and with technology today is usually smooth running with no interruptions.
Q.2. Do you offer face to face/ in person sessions
A. Yes I now offer face to face sessions
Q.3. How many sessions will I need?
A. If you have a single problem you wish to work through, we could work within time limited therapy. We would discuss this at the first session, ideally the work would cover at least 6 sessions.
Open ended work is just that and suitable for people wishing to work holistically with life changes or traumas, for instance. Throughout open ended therapy we will regularly re-evaluate and assess the work in our sessions and what you wish to happen going forward.
Q.4. Is it important to have counselling each week?
A. It is important to attend sessions at least once a week to gain optimum benefit for you, however I understand that this is not always possible and happily accept clients that would like to attend fortnightly (talking therapy only) as this is still beneficial. I also offer intensive EMDR therapy sessions lasting 2-3 hours at a time for people who wish to gain results faster.
Q.5. How long are the sessions?
A. Each talking session is 50 minutes in length. EMDR Therapy sessions are 60 minutes in length unless a 2-3 hour block has been booked.
Q.6. I can't attend sessions during the day, what can I do?
A. If it is impossible for you to attend sessions during the day, I do offer some evening and early morning appointments.
Q.7. What if I am nervous and have questions to ask about counselling?
A. This is understandable and I offer a 10 minute phone consultation to answer any questions you may have before you attend.
Q.8. How much will it cost me?
A. Counselling sessions for individuals cost £65 and last 50 minutes and EMDR Therapy costs £80 for a 60 minute session.
I do offer some concessions for those in need, please ask.
Q.9. How do I pay for my sessions?
A. Sessions can be paid for by cash on the day or by bank transfer before the session takes place. Bank details will be found on the paperwork you receive via email before your first session.
Q.10. What if I can not attend my session?
A. If you can not attend your session, let me know as soon as possible. There is a 48 hour notice period after which time your session will be charged in full. In exceptional circumstances I may be able to reschedule your appointment.
